Manchester United legend Roy Keane has opened up about the emotional turmoil he experienced following his departure from Old Trafford. In a recent podcast interview, the Irishman revealed that he cried in his car after leaving the club he had called home for so many years.

Keane, who spent 12 years at Manchester United, winning numerous trophies including seven Premier League titles, was forced to leave the club in 2005 following a public fallout with manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The midfielder had been critical of his teammates in a television interview, leading to a breakdown in his relationship with the manager.

Speaking on the 'Stayin' In' podcast, Keane said, "When I left United, I cried that morning. I cried in my car." He added, "I understand that my anger is, obviously, a long time ago, but the worst anger you can have is justified anger, when you feel, again, I haven't done anything wrong. I was 34 years old, I'd broken my foot, and my contract was up. For Manchester United, it was easy to say, 'Your days are numbered, it's okay, cheers, thank you very much.' I've seen players leave, but I could have left in the summer."

Keane's departure from Manchester United was a sad end to a remarkable career at the club. The Irishman was a fierce competitor and a natural leader, and his contributions to the club's success during the 1990s and early 2000s were immense.

The Irishman's ability to inspire his teammates and intimidate opponents was instrumental in Manchester United's success during the club's most dominant period.

His departure from the club was a shock to fans, but it is clear that Keane still holds a deep affection for Manchester United. His recent comments have provided a fascinating insight into his thoughts and feelings about his time at the club.
