Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has called for the club to sign Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, as the Red Devils continue to struggle for goals. With both Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to impress, Ferdinand believes that Osimhen is the perfect candidate to lead the line at Old Trafford.
Speaking on his Vibe with Five podcast, Ferdinand said: "Right now, I'd go for Osimhen. He's a beast, he's powerful, he's quick, he's got everything." Ferdinand continued, "He's a proven goalscorer in a tough league like Serie A. He’s exactly what United need right now."
Osimhen has been in sensational form for Napoli last season, scoring numerous goals and helping the Italian side to the top of Serie A. His physicality, pace, and clinical finishing make him a perfect fit for the Premier League.
The Nigerian international has been linked with a move to several top European clubs, but Manchester United are believed to be leading the race for his signature. However, any move for Osimhen would be expensive, with Napoli likely demanding a significant fee for their star striker.
Manchester United have struggled to find a reliable goalscorer since the departure of Romelu Lukaku. Both Højlund and Zirkzee have failed to live up to expectations, leaving the club in need of a new striker.
Osimhen would be a significant upgrade on the current options available to Erik ten Hag. The Nigerian international is a proven goalscorer and would provide the team with a focal point in attack.
While Osimhen would be a fantastic signing for Manchester United, the club would need to be prepared to pay a significant fee. Napoli are likely to demand a premium for their star striker, and the Red Devils may have to sell players to fund a move.
However, if Manchester United are serious about challenging for trophies, they need to invest in a world-class striker. Osimhen would be a statement signing and would send a message to the rest of the Premier League.
