Manchester United manager Rubén Amorim has come under fire for his decision to deploy his full-backs out of position. The Portuguese coach has been experimenting with playing Diogo Dalot, a natural right-back, on the left flank, and vice versa for left-back Patrick Dorgu. However, this tactical switch has failed to yield the desired results, leading to widespread criticism from fans.
Amorim has defended his decision, stating that "sometimes, in the way we play with the left foot on the right side, it's very important, especially when teams mark one against one." He added, "My main goal right now is to win games. And then, perhaps, we can talk about Dorgu playing on the right. He played on the right at Lecce as well."
United supporters have been left perplexed by Amorim’s decision to experiment with such a radical tactical shift. Many have taken to social media to express their frustration, with some questioning the manager's tactical acumen. "Why is Amorim playing Dalot on the left? It's clearly not working," one fan tweeted. "This is a recipe for disaster," added another.
The fans' concerns are understandable. The team has struggled for consistency this season, and the unusual full-back positions have not helped matters. Many believe that the players are not comfortable in their unfamiliar roles, and this is having a negative impact on the team's overall performance.
While Amorim's tactical flexibility is admirable, his decision to play his full-backs out of position has been a gamble that hasn't paid off. The manager may have been hoping that the surprise factor would give his team an advantage, but it seems that the players are struggling to adapt to their new roles.
With the team struggling, there is growing pressure on Amorim to find a solution. Many fans believe that the manager needs to revert to a more traditional formation and play his players in their natural positions.
It remains to be seen whether Amorim will stick with his current tactical approach or whether he will make changes to his team. The manager will need to find a way to turn things around quickly if he is to keep the fans on side.
