Keane: Rashford Has Lost His Hunger

The English forward was surprisingly left out of the squad for the crucial EFL Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur. This latest omission has fueled speculation about his future at Old Trafford and raised serious questions about his relationship with manager Rubén Amorim.

A Cry for Change

Just days prior, Rashford had publicly admitted to being "ready for a new challenge and the next steps" in his career. These comments, coupled with his continued exclusion from the starting lineup and now the matchday squad entirely, suggest a growing rift between player and club.

Keane Weighs In

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane believes a move away from Old Trafford could be the best course of action for Rashford. "I don't care what he said. I think it's true," Keane stated on the 'Stick to Football' podcast. "Sometimes a move is good for everyone. It's been a year or two now, it's clear there's talent there, he's been at the club since he was a kid. A change would probably do him the world of good, him, his team and his family. Just go and play, maybe abroad or whatever."

Keane emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong hunger for success. "I always think if you lose your hunger, it's hard to get it back. Forget about the few quid he's earned over the years, and listen, fair play to him, but we know, great players, it's nothing to do with that."

Amorim's Perspective

While Amorim has expressed a desire to keep Rashford at the club, he acknowledged that he would have handled the situation differently as a player. "If I were him, probably I would talk with the coach," Amorim said to journalists before the Tottenham match. "But guys, let's focus on Spurs. Tottenham is the most important thing."

A Difficult Period

Rashford has struggled to find his best form in recent seasons, scoring just 15 goals in 67 games since signing a new contract 18 months ago. He was also left out of the England squad for Euro 2024, further highlighting his decline.

The coming weeks will be crucial for Rashford's future at Manchester United. With his contract set to expire in 2028 and a number of top clubs reportedly interested in his signature, a move away from Old Trafford could be on the horizon.
