The Frenkie De Jong saga of this summer might add another chapter before the transfer window comes to a close on Thursday. The transfer market expert, Fabrizio Romano, reported today that the English giants will continue dreaming about signing the midfielder until the last minute of the transfer deadline day.
However, the Italian reporter said that the only way that this transfer could happen is if the player finally changes his mind and calls his agents to tell them that he wants to leave, which is something that didn’t happen all summer that the Red Devils were waiting for him to accept a move to Old Trafford after reaching an agreement with Barcelona.
A new bump in the road for Manchester United trying to sign this player
This Manchester United Academy player is close to joining a Premier League team
Frenkie De Jong was Erik ten Hag’s top priority signing ever since he was appointed as Manchester United manager back in April, not even Antony, who was his second priority. United ultimately had an agreement with Barca for the transfer of the player, but he refused to leave because he still had years in his contract and they owed him some of his wages.
The English giants waited for about a month for De Jong to make up his mind and finally agree to rejoin his former manager at Ajax, but he never did and the agreement with the Spanish club eventually expired a few weeks ago. For that reason, Casemiro was signed from Real Madrid by the club’s board as an alternative.
Although Fabrizio Romano reported that Manchester United are still hopeful that he eventually calls his agents, it doesn’t seem likely that he will do it on the final day of the transfer window. In addition, Erik ten Hag already has Casemiro as the world-class midfielder that he needed, and looks like he would only sign a right-back.
