“You train how you play.” This saying has gone around in football for years and has been used as a stick to beat players that do not train well and look like they do not give 100 percent effort. At the biggest clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and many others this becomes more important. To play for the best you must be the best and keep the standards always high, especially in training.

Manchester United’s manager Erik Ten Hag is very strict about his training methods and maximum effort in training is the minimum for him. The incident with Sancho earlier in the season highlighted that when Erik Ten Hag dropped the forward for a game against Arsenal, and his reasoning after the game was poor effort in training. Sancho has not made an appearance for United since and is now on loan at Borussia Dortmund. United now have another incident in training as Anthony Martial has been told by Ten Hag to train alone until Ten Hag deems him fit enough to rejoin the first team training.

Whilst there are some alleged bad trainers at the football club, there are some great ones and the one player that gets the highest of praises in training is Marcus Rashford. The English forward has not had the best of seasons so far after a career year last season, but while the results on matchday may not be positive, on the training ground they are excellent. Rashford’s teammates have the highest of praises for the player.

In the summer of 2022, Rashford underwent serious training before the preseason in Los Angeles after his worst season in his professional career. Rashford would conduct his training during his holiday in order to impress Ten Hag upon his arrival.

When asked about who in training still shocks him, McTominay said “I’ve been around a lot of different players and, but I’ll still refer back to Marcus, he’s so talented and the way he conducts himself on the training pitch everyday, he’s always there, he’s so sharp and electric. I’ve watched him come through the academy,”.
