Manchester United desperation for a number nine is well known amongst the footballing world and that has led to various rumors this January about United bringing in a striker to compete with Hojlund and give him some help. Manchester United original plan this summer was to bring in two strikers as Wout Weghorst loan had ended and the club could not rely on Anthony Martial due to his fitness issues. So, the plan was clear, get two strikers.

In true Manchester United fashion, plans do not work out and that once again repeated itself this summer. The club had some strong links this summer to strikers outside of Hojlund including Goncalo Ramos and Harry Kane. The club would not declare enough interest in either player as Ramos ended up at PSG and as for Kane, the club were hesitant to get into negotiations with Daniel Levy for Harry Kane. That led to the club pulling the trigger on Rasmus, but the job was not meant to finish there.

The club were never able to rack up the funds to get the chance to get a second striker as they shifted focus on getting another midfielder before the window ended. This led to United going into the season with Hojlund and Martial as their only strikers. Martial has been struggling to stay fit the whole season, while Hojlund is going through the growing pains of being a young striker. The goals have started to come in the league for the young Dane as he hopes to have a great second half of the season.

This winter has seen United been linked to a few strikers such as Joshua Zirkzee, Brian Brobbey, and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. A move for the former two is highly unlikely, so United may have to shift focus towards the Cameroonian striker.

The latest update on Choupo Moting

A week ago, Fabrizio Romano would give a huge clue onto the availability of the striker as the journalist would say that Choupo Moting is open to moving to United as he searches for more regular gametime, as Harry Kane plays most minutes at Bayern.
