Alejandro Garnacho's recent reaction to being substituted during Manchester United's clash with Ipswich Town has resulted in a unique punishment from manager Rúben Amorim. The Argentine winger's behaviour, which saw him storm down the tunnel, has been addressed by the manager, who has opted for a light-hearted yet firm approach to discipline.

The Incident: Dorgu's Red Card and Garnacho's Reaction

During the Premier League encounter against Ipswich Town, Patrick Dorgu's expulsion forced Amorim to make a tactical change. With the team down to ten men, the manager decided to replace Garnacho with Noussair Mazraoui to bolster the defence. This decision did not sit well with Garnacho, who immediately headed for the dressing room, bypassing the bench. This action prompted Amorim to take action.

Amorim's Response: A Team Dinner

Amorim, known for his man-management skills, decided to address the situation with a touch of humour. He announced that Garnacho would be paying for a team dinner. "Obviously I will speak with Garnacho about it, so you will have an answer in the next press conference," Amorim had stated initially.

True to his word, the manager revealed the punishment: "Here at Manchester United everything is important and perception at a big club is key. So he's going to pay for dinner for everyone, but that's all."

Tactical Rationale: Amorim's Explanation

Amorim explained his decision to substitute Garnacho, emphasising the need for tactical balance. "My thought was to play with a 5-3-1. I know it's a risk, especially when you take off the only player who unbalances in one-on-one situations (Garnacho), but I felt the team was controlling the game. In the end, you have to make the change, and you have to choose someone to come off. You have to think about set pieces too, so that was my choice," he added.

Social Media Reaction: Garnacho's Post

Garnacho's reaction extended beyond his departure down the tunnel. He also generated social media buzz with a cryptic post. However, Amorim downplayed the significance of this, focusing instead on Garnacho's overall improvement. "I think he's improving in everything, in every aspect of his game: his understanding, when to defend. We need these players who can unbalance in one-on-one situations," Amorim stated.

Transfer Speculation: Napoli's Interest

During the recent transfer window, Garnacho was linked with a move to Napoli, who reportedly offered around $41 million. However, no agreement was reached. Napoli's sporting director, Giovanni Manna, explained, "He wanted to be economically satisfied and his request was something we couldn't do at this time.

We didn't want to do it and it didn't even seem right to me when there's an average salary in the dressing room to put a young player with a higher one. It wouldn't have been fair to the others, who are doing important things."
