Manchester United record of transfer flops in the past decade is such a long list that you could build a dossier out of the names. Since 2013, United have had a rough history in the transfer market, as after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, United struggled to build a vision to follow. They were a deer caught in headlights after the departure of the legendary coach and they had no direction. The club made the decision to spend tons of money and hoped that buying what was meant to be quality players and putting them on the pitch together that results and success would follow.

Any sensible man could have told United that plan would not work, and low and behold it did not. United have struggled to form a consistent team as the club have only finished in the top four in consecutive seasons just once since 2013. Players have come and gone, and some players overstay their welcome at the club as the club struggled to determine a player’s value.

A big reason for this is the people that run the football operations on a day-to-day basis. Ed Woodward was the CEO of the club at that time, and while the man had great commercial success at Man United, he struggled to build a proper squad, and went for names him and the club believed would also help them in terms of revenue and shirt sales.

The club in 2019 had a very important summer after having had one of their worst Premier League seasons ever and needed to start a new rebuild under the coach at that time Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The club made a couple big signings that summer such as Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Harry Maguire’s transfer came under the most scrutiny as the club paid 80 million pounds, which at the time was a record fee.

Omar Berrada was at Manchester City when Maguire was signed, and the defender was a target for City at the time. Berrada spoke about why City avoided paying the fee and said, “In the same way that we didn't rush into buying a centre-back last season after not wanting to sign Maguire for that valuation…”.
