Another day, another defender linked with Manchester United. Manchester United’s desperation to revamp their defense has led them to extensively scout centre backs across the world. The club have been strongly linked with a few defenders such as Jarrad Branthwaite, Leny Yoro, and Jean-Clair Todibo but there have also been some loose links like Ronald Araujo and Matthijs De Ligt of Bayern. The club is looking at every possible option until the time comes to make the decision for the summer window.

Departures at the centre-back position are likely for the Red Devils as two of Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, and Jonny Evans will likely leave. Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane will be free agents in the summer, and Victor Lindelof has one year on his contract left. Which likely means that two signings at centre-back are likely with only Lisandro Martinez guaranteed to be at the club next season.

United are linked to a player from a nation that has not been a popular nation at the club. Manchester United do not have the richest history with Italians, with the last Italian at the club being Matteo Darmian who had a mixed time at United. The fullback arrived in 2015 at United and spent four years at the club making just under 100 appearances at the football club. The last Italian to feature at United before Darmian was Federico Macheda who is well remembered for his debut goal against Aston Villa.

United have set their sights on Turin as they are linked with Torino’s defender Alessandro Buongiorno. The defender is left-footed and 24 years old and has made 85 appearances for Torino. The young defender has impressed over the last year and won himself his first international cap this summer. The link with the player came from FootballTransfers and they report that United have set their sights on him. United are not the only club sniffing around for the player, as Italian giants AC Milan are also looking at the player.

The price that Alessandro Buongiorno costs

What makes the Torino defender attractive to United is his price. According to FootballTransfers, the price for the defender is reported to be around 30 million Euros. Compared to the prices of the other defenders United are linked with it makes sense why United are tempted by this option.
