Rasmus Hojlund's goal drought has now stretched to 21 games in all competitions, a concerning statistic for any striker, let alone one who arrived at Manchester United with such high expectations. Despite the lack of goals, manager Ruben Amorim has remained steadfast in his support of the Danish forward.
Amorim's backing of Hojlund goes beyond simply looking at the goals column. "We play with two number 10s, we need a player who puts pressure on the opposition, who makes runs," Amorim explained. "Hojlund does that and helps the team a lot. He gave an assist, made good combinations, he just needs to score. He's very anxious. He'll score one."
Amorim's comments highlight Hojlund's contribution to the team beyond scoring goals. His work rate, pressing, and ability to create space for others are valuable assets. The assist he provided in the 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad is a testament to his all-round game.
The manager also acknowledged the pressure Hojlund is under. "He's very anxious," Amorim admitted. "He'll score one." This anxiety is understandable, given the weight of expectations on the young striker's shoulders.
Despite Amorim's support, some Manchester United fans are growing increasingly frustrated with Hojlund's lack of goals. The striker's struggles have become a talking point among supporters, with many questioning his ability to lead the line for the club.
There is no doubt that Hojlund possesses the talent to succeed at Manchester United. His pace, power, and finishing ability are all evident. It may simply be a matter of time before he finds his scoring touch.
While Hojlund's goal drought is a concern, there is no need to panic. The Danish forward has the talent and the support to turn his fortunes around. With Amorim's backing and the continued support of the fans, Hojlund's time will come.
