No better feeling at a club than when an academy kid breaks through at the football club. To be able to see a player’s development from the beginning of their career and see them go through the up and downs before eventually seeing it all click and take the next step. To see their first goal and the exhilaration after scoring it, the first trophy lift, the first important goal, it’s a great feeling.

A club that is known for their academy and prioritizing success is Manchester United as the club’s rise to the top 30 years ago owes a lot of it to their success. La Carrington as their fans call it has produced some of the best players English football has ever seen in Paul Scholes and David Beckham, and if we want to take it back further to the 60’s and 70s the likes of George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton came through the academy. The list of names is long and endless. And for 86 years running Manchester United have had an academy graduate in their matchday squad.

Whilst the class of 1992 is the standard of the United Academy, there are a few players that did not live up to those standards but still have had excellent careers. You have the likes of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford who are academy graduates and have had successful careers. Pogba would win the World Cup and win multiple titles abroad, and as for Marcus Rashford who is on pace to end up high in the United all-time goalscoring charts. And the next crop of Carrington players seems to be a special group, as United have prioritized an overhaul within the academy.

In the last couple of years United have seen Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho break through, and the youngsters so far look like they will be good players. United also have a 16-year-old player that is raved about quite highly and his name is Shea Lacey. The kid has gotten compared to Phil Foden as Manchester United look to find a player like Phil.
