Teammate relationships are always an interesting dynamic when looking at football clubs. There are some players within a locker room that everyone loves. He could be the funniest guy, he could be the nicest guy in the squad, or he could be the best player in the squad and has the respect of his peers. There are also some players that are not as popular within the locker room. It could be an ego issue or maybe because the coach loves them more than the others.

The coach’s favorite is never a crowd favorite. Locker room dynamics under Jose Mourinho may have been the most interesting in the last decade at Manchester United. It was a locker room with a lot of veterans, one of the bluntest coaches, and then there were also the youngsters such as Rashford and Martial. Mourinho would also give a debut to a player that is still in the squad today after 6 years.

Scott McTominay broke through under Jose Mourinho and became one of the coaches’ favorites instantly. It’s something that has become a pattern for Scott during his time at United as all the coaches love him and it could be a variety of reasons why. But it’s possible no one loved him more than Jose who would Scott “The Special Boy” which was in reference to Jose’s nickname of “The Special One”.

Scott has been a mainstay at United since his arrival to the first team and has been used in a different number of roles across the midfield, which speaks to his tactical versatility.
