Manchester United are looking to appoint a new sporting director following investment from the founder of INEOS.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe still has a little red tape to cross through before formally stepping into his seat at Old Trafford, but the INEOS founder is already starting to sprinkle his magic behind the scenes. Omar Berrada is on board as the new CEO as Manchester United work towards joining together Gary Neville's fundamental triangle of hiring a top chief executive, sporting director and head of recruitment.

Highly questioned, Mount is strongly criticized by Premier League legend

With a new chief executive in place, Neville wants United to follow up that eye-catching appointment by adding the right sporting director and recruitment figurehead. Ratcliffe is very much on the same page, though, as the 71-year-old continues to wait for Premier League ratification on his recent £1.25billion investment. That deal was not the fully-fledged takeover Neville and most supporters were hoping for.

However, key changes are being made at a decent rate; allowing those who have suffered watching the much maligned Glazer family try and operate to dream that better days might, finally, be around the corner. Dan Ashworth is on the radar for United and has ties with INEOS through Sir Dave Brailsford. His sterling work for Newcastle and prior to that Brighton has been lauded across the footballing sphere and there is some hope he could be lured to Old Trafford as sporting director in a second cross, Premier League coup.

His would be availability remains unclear, though, as United assess other potential candidates. As they say, as one door closes another one opens, with departing Bayern Munich operator Marco Neppe simultaneously outlined as a possible option for INEOS to consider after his decade long spell in Bavaria was brought to an end.

Don't forget, Ratcliffe continues to be outraged by the issue of Cristiano

The consequences of bringing Neppe

Neppe's time at the Bundesliga heavyweights has been underlined by success after success in the market. The 37-year-old was responsible for scouting Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala while he also played a role in signing Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Kane over consecutive summers. United have rarely lacked the financial clout and Sir Jim Ratcliffe's arrival could signal the end of the club's Financial Fair Play concerns in the transfer market. However, they need to add the market nous and Marco Neppe could help them pull off a dream summer transfer window.
