Casemiro, the Brazilian midfield maestro, is back to his best. After a period of inconsistent form, the 33-year-old has rediscovered his dominant self, putting in a series of impressive performances for Manchester United. His recent display against Arsenal, in a 1-1 draw, was a masterclass, reminiscent of his peak years at Real Madrid.
Against Arsenal, Casemiro was immense. He won 12 duels, made nine successful tackles out of ten attempts, and controlled the midfield with his trademark authority. This performance marked his return to playing consecutive 90-minute matches, something he hadn't achieved since November.
A spate of injuries within the Manchester United squad provided Casemiro with the opportunity to regain his place in the starting lineup. He seized this chance, building on his return to the first team against Tottenham in mid-February, after a month and a half without a start under Rúben Amorim.
Casemiro's statistics against Arsenal were outstanding. His nine successful tackles were more than all other midfielders on the pitch combined, setting a Premier League season-high. He also achieved an 83% pass accuracy and won 12 duels, at least five more than any other player on the pitch.
Casemiro's performance was a throwback to his best days. He was the 'mower' once again, breaking up play and providing a solid foundation for the team. This resurgence comes at a crucial time for Manchester United, who have struggled for consistency this season.
In a recent interview with AS, Casemiro stated that his first season at Manchester United was his best individual season as a footballer. While acknowledging the collective achievements of his time at Real Madrid, he believes his first year at Old Trafford showcased his best personal form.
Casemiro's return to form is a major boost for Manchester United. His experience, leadership, and defensive prowess are crucial for the team's success. As he continues to perform at this level, he will be a key figure in Manchester United's pursuit of their goals.
