This January transfer window has already seen a few youngsters go on loan to get some gametime and for some it can even turn into a new home. The likes of Joe Hugill, Alvaro Fernandez, and most recently Hannibal Mejbri all went on loan this month. Hugill is at Burton Albion, Alvaro has gone to Benfica, and Hannibal is now at Sevilla. The next name out is someone that has gone out on loan whilst at United and that is Facundo Pellistri.

The young Uruguayan enjoyed two unsuccessful loan spells at Deportivo Alaves in the 20/21 and 21/22 campaigns. Since coming back to United last year, he has enjoyed limited gametime with only 13 Premier League appearances but has provided a spark on multiple occasions as a substitute. With Copa America coming up this summer, Pellistri needs to find a way to get minutes to be ready and get selected by Uruguay’s manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Pellistri has been linked with both a permanent exit and a loan exit, but according to Fabrizio Romano the club are hesitant to let him leave permanently. Their ideal solution is to extend his contract and leave on a loan for the remainder of the season. According to the Daily Mail, PSV are the front runner for the young player. Meanwhile, in Argentina sources are saying Juan Roman Riquelme wants Pellistri at Boca Juniors to partner with Edinson Cavani.

The Dutchman has been both positive and critical of the Uruguyan and even refused to sanction his exit in the summer window. However, after a 3-0 win against Everton, Ten Hag had some tough words for Facundo. “He has to make also a step from bench player, coming in and having a good impact, to a starting eleven player. We will see how quick that process will do,” said Ten Hag.
