Manchester United went into this past summer transfer window with a few goals in mind. One was to find a new striker, which they did with Rasmus Hojlund. They also set out to find a replacement for David De Gea, which was found with new number one Andre Onana. The club also had a goal to sign a backup number six to help Casemiro as the Brazilian had a lot of running to do last year and needed a capable backup.
Ten Hag had his radar set on one of his former players, but the club nearly failed to get him. Towards the end of the window the club were able to obtain Ten Hag’s guy, Sofyan Amrabat. What originally was meant to be a permanent signing earlier in the summer, due to Financial Fair Play United could not afford Fiorentina’s demands for the Moroccan. Therefore, United offered multiple loan deals to the Italian club that kept getting rejected. United would find the sweet spot by adding the buy option and Amrabat signed.
Life in Manchester has not been kind for the Moroccan as he arrived at the club having had no preseason, therefore he had extra work to do to get in match shape. Ten Hag would also deploy Amrabat at left back in his first three games for the club due to the left back crisis United faced at the time with injuries. Amrabat would have mixed performances at left back but Ten Hag would eventually move him to his natural position of defensive midfield. The performances have been lackluster to say the least.
The emergence of Kobbie Mainoo has not helped Amrabat’s chances of securing a permanent move as the youngster has quickly become one of Ten Hag’s favorites and Amrabat has fallen down the pecking order. According to journalist Dean Jones, the chances of Amrabat being able to secure the permanent move are “pretty much zero”.

How does Erik Ten Hag Feel about Amrabat
Ten Hag was the biggest advocate for the signing of Amrabat due to their previous relationship and the Dutchman hailed the Moroccan’s versatility. But with the buy option being 21 million pounds and United already looking at other midfielders, the decision might be taken out of Erik’s hands.
