The sponsors hope a fresh face at United brings positive change

The last decade at Manchester United has not been the kindest of times for the Red Devils. No league title in over a decade, less than double digit trophies, multiple group stage exits in the Champions League. The club that was once known as one of, if not the best in Europe, has now become a laughingstock. However, United fans are not the only ones that have recognized this, so have the United sponsors.

One of the biggest goals the Glazers set out for Utd was to achieve commercial success and that success was prioritized over sporting success. To an extent it worked as United were seeing record-breaking numbers in revenue during the 2010s. The lack of sporting success eventually caught up and the revenue is not the same and the sponsorship money is not what it used to be.

The change that was needed has potentially arrived with Sir Jim Ratcliffe coming in as part owner of the club with a primary focus on the sporting side of things. His goal is to make United the best again, something they have not been in quite some time. One of United’s sponsors Apollo, which is a tire company, their managing director seems excited about the possibility of change at the football club as he has noticed United’s slip in the Premier League table. United currently sits seventh in the league table but has a negative goal difference and the top four spots are slipping away.

Apollo’s managing director Neeraj Kanwar had some harsh words to say about the current majority owners of Manchester United and what needs to change. Kanwar said to the Daily Mail “But always when some new infusion of oxygen comes in, you might see something new in the club which is what's required I think. I'm seeing smaller clubs coming up in the Premier League this year – the Aston Villas of the world, Brighton, Newcastle – and the old guys have somehow not got the story right. The Uniteds and the Chelseas."

What does Ratcliffe think is required at Manchester United

In a meeting yesterday with a Manchester United supporter group, Sir Jim discussed his plans and what he thinks needs to happen for United to be successful again. His main message was that the club needs to become ruthless.
