Erik Ten Hag will have a stressful few months

In football when a shakeup happens upstairs, everything changes from top to bottom. We saw at Chelsea what happened after Todd Boehly’s arrival, everything changed within the football club. Well Manchester United are in the same boat now with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS. And the Englishman has already made the first statement signing for United and it’s off the pitch. Manchester United signed Omar Berrada to be their CEO and the new CEO has some tough choices to make.

The biggest decision that will happen to Manchester United the rest of this season, is if Erik Ten Hag will stay or go. Asking that question this past summer would have seen you laughed out the room. The coach had a very successful first season with the Red Devils where he won the club their first trophy since 2017 and helped them reach another final. The club would also finish third in the Premier League and secure Champions League football. It was a very strong first season for the club and the manager and the future looked bright.

But progression is not linear and Manchester United have been a great example as all their hard work last season has been wiped away from the disappointments of this year. The club have already been knocked out of Europe and are eighth in the Premier League and more than half the season has played.

And when a new ownership comes in, they want their own guy. They have no loyalties to the manager who in this case would be Ten Hag. And with a new CEO who has worked at the top clubs of Manchester City and Barcelona he might try and set higher standards for the club.

Roberto De Zerbi is an option

According to Pol Ballus of the Athletic, Omar Berrada could want to bring in his guy and who he thinks could help his vision of Manchester United and how he wants the club to improve. De Zerbi was one of the main names linked with being the heir to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and Berrada could look to hijack De Zerbi before he could get to City.
