Manchester United's goalkeeping situation has come under intense scrutiny this season. Both first-choice keeper Andre Onana and his deputy, Altay Bayindir, have faced criticism for their performances, leaving fans questioning whether the club has a long-term solution between the sticks.

Onana, who arrived from Inter Milan with a reputation as a modern goalkeeper, has made 23 appearances across the Premier League, Europa League, and Community Shield, but has conceded a concerning 28 goals. While he has shown glimpses of his ability to play out from the back, his shot-stopping has been inconsistent, and he has made a number of high-profile errors.

Bayindir, on the other hand, has had limited opportunities, featuring in just three EFL Cup matches. Despite his lack of game time, the Turkish international has also conceded six goals, raising doubts about his suitability for a club of United's stature.

What's going wrong?

Several factors could be contributing to United's goalkeeping woes. Firstly, the transition from David de Gea's more traditional style of goalkeeping to Onana's more modern approach has been challenging. While Onana is undoubtedly a talented goalkeeper, he has struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League.

Secondly, the defensive frailties of the team have undoubtedly put added pressure on both Onana and Bayindir. The defenders have been inconsistent, leaving the goalkeepers exposed on numerous occasions.

Finally, the high expectations placed on United goalkeepers can be a heavy burden to bear. The club has a long history of producing legendary goalkeepers, and any new signing is inevitably compared to the likes of Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar.

Is there a solution?

United may need to consider their options in the transfer market. The club could look to bring in a more experienced goalkeeper who can provide stability and leadership. Alternatively, they could continue to develop Bayindir and hope that he can eventually fulfill his potential.

Another option would be to provide more defensive protection for the goalkeepers. Strengthening the backline would not only reduce the number of goals conceded but would also allow the goalkeepers to play with more confidence.
