After being on the sidelines for weeks, he has made a swift recovery in time for the World Cup.

Manchester United fans felt a sour taste on the back of their tongue a couple of weeks back during their feisty game at Stamford bridge that almost saw them lose to the host courtesy of a late penalty but got a resounding draw in the end when Casemiro equalized late on.

United was on course to continue their good run of form against top-six rivals in that game but their plans were almost foiled after one of their key players picked up a serious injury that left him out for weeks and unable to play for United till after the current World Cup.

The defensive partnership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez became the rock on which Ten Hag shaped his defense wall, supported by the ever-constant David De Gea in from of the goal. The pair have been a consistent feature for Ten Hag, up until Varane's injury in the Chelsea game.

The injury to the Frenchman ruled him out for weeks as Ten Hag had to gamble his backline with the less convincing Victor Lindelof. Varane was also worried to miss the FIFA World Cup this November but has returned to full fitness and is confirmed to be available for France's first world cup group-stage game.

WHAT SHOULD UNITED FANS EXPECT?

The 29-year-old center-back has been a mainstay in the United squad since he joined last summer alongside his former Real Madrid teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo. He has so far made  32 Premier League appearances for the club and has been the first team name on the teamsheet whenever he's fit and available. Varane will be expecting to have a good World Cup with France as they look to defend their title in Qatar before league resumption in December.
