Multiple media outlets have all reported that Antony will not play with Ajax today against Sparta Rotterdam as he is hoping for Manchester United to push for his transfer. The 22-year-old skipped the last two training sessions with his teammates right after his club rejected an €80 million bid for him made by the Red Devils.

It is being reported by Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sports, that both clubs are currently negotiating after the player’s reaction. The Amsterdam side isn’t happy with Antony’s attitude recently where he has proven he wants to leave this summer, and the English giants are being pushed by Erik ten Hag to sign him as soon as possible.

Despite these reports, Mike Verweij from De Telegraaf, who is one of the closest sources to the Dutch club, says that Ajax completely refuses to sell the footballer for a fee under €100 million. For that reason, the reporter claims that Antony could even go on strike until September 1st in the most extreme case scenario.

Yesterday, the 22-year-old Brazilian had an interview with Mike Verweij where he confirmed that he was happy at Ajax and wouldn’t mind staying as he still has a contract with them until 2025. However, just hours after saying that he reportedly refused to take part in a behind-closed-doors training session with the team for the second day in a row which contradicted his words.

Negotiations ongoing

Ajax have made their intention very clear since the start of the summer transfer window rejecting all proposals Manchester United have made for him, but after Antony’s rebellion, they might consider selling him. However, this will not be cheap because they will only take €100 million. The Red Devils were considering offering €80m fixed plus €20m in add-ons.
