While Manchester City suffered a defeat due to Pep's gamble, Erik Ten Hag is preparing for the derby.

The Red Devils fans celebrated their local rival's fall from the EFL Cup in the latest round. The mood was boosted by the assurance that they had one less opponent to face as they progress to the semifinals of the Cup competition this season.

Erik Ten Hag since the restart of club football has made some bold changes to his team setup as he sought to make his players more adaptable to unpredictable situations. The Dutch manager opted to play fullback Luke Shaw in the left center-half position.

The decision to play Shaw in a more flexible position yielded great results after being paired with the much-experienced Raphael Varane. The duo has won all their three games together as United's center-half pairing following the issue it Harry Maguire's illness and Lisandro Martinez's fitness concerns.

Red Devils have picked up maximum results from all their games since the restart with a recent 3-0 win against Charlton Athletic in their EFL Cup tie. Unite dominated throughout the game and got their emphatic leas with the late Marcus Rashford brace.

How did City suffer and what is Ten Hag's plan?

Manchester City lost their EFL Cup game to Southampton last night much to the delight of Manchester United after Pep Guardiola made a wrong decision. The City manager tried emulating Erik Ten Hag by playing fullback Kyle Walker in a center-back role but failed woefully at it as they exited which has dampened their morale ahead of the Manchester derby. Ten Hag will be hoping his team's adaptive will give them the edge in the coming game.
