Manchester United defeated Southampton today away at St Mary's Stadium and have now won two games in a row in the Premier League. The Red Devils look like they have recovered from their complicated start of the season when they lost against Brighton and Brentford in the first two fixtures. Today’s captain and goalscorer Bruno Fernandes talked to BT Sport after the final whistle.
He knows they need to continue to build on past performances: “Southampton away is not easy. This is the Premier League, every game is tough but a massive 3 points for us. It is important because one win or two wins don’t make the league. We need to keep up this fight and sacrifice for the rest of the season. It’s what this club demands”, he told BT Sport.

The 27-year-old Portuguese midfielder admitted that the 4-0 defeat last time away from home really left a mark on the players in the squad and that it was a wakeup call: “I felt a big change in the group after Brentford. I felt straight away in training that we wanted to make a change in the way we play and in our results”.
When asked about his goal in today’s match that helped the team get the win, he gave credit to everyone involved in the play: “It was a great ball, even great play from behind. Everything was perfect. Someone runs, and someone gets the space behind. We did it well, so well done to everyone, not just me”, he told BT Sport.
With his goal today, Bruno Fernandes finally opened up his account this season. He hadn’t scored or assisted in the previous three fixtures, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t playing well. The former Sporting footballer was one of the best players on the field against Liverpool, and today he scored an amazing goal, that hopefully will give him confidence in front of goal.
