Manchester United was buzzing ahead of their game as their fierce rival dropped points as they welcomed Crystal Palace to Old Trafford for the second fixture of the season. The starting lineup saw a few changes made to the starting line up with Fred coming in for the injured Christian Eriksen.
The Red Devils started off brightly with quick direct attacks that result in the only goal of the game so far. Antony Santos put in a tricky play on the edge of the 18-yard box and the ball clipped the Palace fullback. Rashford reacted to the ball and hit a strike that was blocked by the hands of Will Hughes in the Palace box which resulted in a penalty. It took a VAR check before it was confirmed.
The worse news for Manchester United star ahead of the big weekend
Great news for Manchester United fans a day before the big game
The Manchester United captain of the day, Bruno Fernandes took the spot-kick and expectedly slotted it into the corner of the net as he sent the keeper the wrong way. Old Trafford erupted in delight for the goal as Manchester United moves to third position on the table.
They are three points ahead of Newcastle who is yet to play. The Red Devils piled more pressure on Crystal Palace but saw all their efforts denied by the goalkeeper. Palace also had their moment with David De Gea called into action on a number of occasions to keep United’s lead.
After getting an early go in the 6th minute from the spot, Manchester United haven't been able to convert their other chances which seems to worry Erik Ten Hag on the sidelines as he scrambled thoughts on his jotter. It is expected that he will make some changes to the second half with Jadon Sancho likely to be called upon.
