Many Manchester United supporters attacked Erik ten Hag's players after going down 2-0 right at the start of the second half of their Europa League quarter-final second leg against Sevilla in Spain on Thursday night.

After David de Gea and Harry Maguire combined to gift Youssef En-Nesyri the chance to give the Spanish team an early lead, they doubled their lead less than two minutes from the start of the second half. A corner found defender Loic Bade's shoulder and his effort went past De Gea and into the net.

Following a lifeless first half performance, Ten Hag made the decision to make a double substitution at half time, introducing Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford from the substitute bench. However, Bade's effort in the 47th minute made the task even more difficult.

United were second best in the first half and were completely outclassed. United supporters were already furious after De Gea and Maguire combined to give Sevilla their first goal, meaning the way they conceded their second only added to their frustration.

The defensive part is the most criticized

Christian Eriksen does not believe the atmosphere played a part in United's thrashing against Sevilla on Thursday night. After throwing the game away in the closing stages of the first leg at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag wanted his players to respond at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, but they immediately looked unnerved by the hostile atmosphere. Sevilla needed just seven minutes to score after an amateurish mix-up between David de Gea and Harry Maguire and the hosts almost scored again in the 41st minute when VAR ruled out Lucas Ocampos' goal due to offside.
