For many years, Manchester United's number-one spot has been synonymous with only one player, David De Gea, who currently has over 385 appearances in the Premier League for Manchester United since making his debut on August 14, 2011. The hands that have saved United in moments that words can't describe appropriately but fans remember vividly.

Erik Ten Hag has never backed down from supporting his first-choice goalkeeper who has been a tremendous servant of United, with a couple of best player awards to his name from the club. De Gea has less than nine months left on his current contract at the club and looks set to be released come summer 2023 when his contract expires. United have so far remained close-knit about their plans regarding his contract which left a large part of the fanbase worried about what to expect because losing a goalkeeper of De Gea's status will be a huge blow to their squad.

De Gea has started 12 Premier league matches for the United this season and keeps five clean sheets, with a recent display of his heroics against West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday. A center-half partnership of Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez helped to further extend United's unbeaten run to eight games at the moment.

SHOULD UNITED MOVE ON FROM DAVID DE GEA?

Moving on from David De Gea seems like a wrong move at the moment especially given the quality he exudes in front of the goal, as there are hardly any goalies that can deliver consistently at the top level. A refusal to renew De Gea's contract will surely lead to outcry from supporters if United goes that route but who is qualified enough to replace him if he leaves?
