Manchester United fans who were thought to be carried away by the “Glazers Out” protests seem not to have forgiven club captain Harry Maguire, he was reported to be back in training at the weekend after a thigh injury he sustained on international duty last month kept him out and has subsequently hindered his attempt to gain form and fight for a place in the team, even as he races against time to get a callup for the England World Cup squad.

This was confirmed by former Chelsea and Portsmouth defender, Glenn Johnson who went as far as saying that England fans won't want to see Manchester United defender get a starting shirt at World Cup in a recent interview Manchester Evening News, “I don’t think there will be many England fans out there hoping he starts. I think you kind of have to take him but he’s not going to fill anyone with confidence if he is playing in a back-four.”

In his defense, Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini feels that the United captain has come under unnecessary criticism due to his price tag which he feels went up at the time of his purchase based on his form and consistency with Leicester city. Chiellini, a 2020 UEFA European Championship winner feels that Maguire should be given another chance to regain his confidence as he believes he's a good defender.

However, the 29 year old who was Player of the Season for Leicester city in the 2017/18 season set to consider his future at Old Trafford next summer, according to freelance journalist Pete O'Rourke while speaking on Give Me Sport. Daily Mail on the other hand, confirms that Maguire has stepped up efforts to be fit as he sets his sight on his return to action against Chelsea this Saturday in the EPL.

Are United fans justified with their actions against Maguire?

It will be recalled that Maguire was in the EURO 2020 team of the season, but fans have been clamouring for his sale due to his poor displays. They feel that Maguire lacks the leadership skills and flair to lead the Red Devils. So with his performances at his former club, Maguire's career could be up again if he decides to move elsewhere and rebuild his confidence.
