As a new manager was set to come in during the summer, Manchester United quickly identified the areas they would like to improve on, especially after losing a host of players during that period. The target list was researched and work began immediately as they went after their top targets.

The midfield was a key area for improvement and United sort for a different kind of creativity that could split the defense open in one pass to produce clear scoring opportunities and the rejuvenated free agent Christian Eriksen topped the list. He eventually joined the Red Devils after buying into their goals.

No chance for this player at United yet he's going to the World Cup

But things have been a little different since he joined, as he has had to play a much deeper role under Ten Hag to accommodate Bruno Fernandes upfront behind the number nine. This was a move that has left the Danish playmaker unfulfilled as he doesn't have as much influence in games as he would have liked if he played further up the pitch.

Despite being played out of position, Eriksen has provided United with more sparks of creativity than his Portuguese counterpart who has been abysmal for weeks, with three assists in 11 games. Eriksen has been dazzling in recent weeks with Casemiro in the middle of the park which has led to more calls from fans for Ten Hag to give him the number ten role in their next game ahead of Bruno Fernandes.

CAN ERIKSEN SPARKLE IF HE MOVES UP?

The Denmark international has certainly shown that he is quite vast in delivering against different types of opposition both from his time at Tottenham and Brentford, which was one of the deciding factors in United signing him. With three assists from a deeper role, one can only imagine how many more he would have if played in his natural position which is what Ten Hag must be considering now.
