Manchester United are expected to go all out in the winter to bring in quality addition to the squad.

When Cristiano Ronaldo's contract was mutually terminated earlier this week, it sealed not just the end of the fairytale relationship but also sealed the need immediate need for his replacement as United become extra short with their attacking options.

Erik Ten Hag is believed to have identified his preferred player to be considered before any bid is placed to their current club for their services. He is keen on bringing in a quality player to offset the attacking burden on his current option at the top of the pitch.

PSV Eindhoven's club captain Cody Gakpo is reportedly now United's number-one target for the winter transfer window. The 23-year-old has been outstanding this season for club and country taking his goal contribution to over 30 already but a move for him could be tricky due to competition for his signature.

United has as a result decided on a plan B in Rafael Leao of AC Milan, who is currently on international duty with his Portuguese national team. United is expected to have less competition for Leao because of his higher price tag but is convinced that he is a fit player for them to sign.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO UNITED IN JANUARY?

United are believed to be considering all transfer options to solve their attack issue but will surely be decisive when they move in on their desired target. Manager Erik Ten Hag is reported to prefer Gakpo's signing but is wary of PSV's stance and also heavy competition for the player's signature after the World Cup following his impressive display. Leao has been great as well and was instrumental to Milan's title win last season.
