Manchester United's priority position to fill in the winter transfer window was the attacking position after the club parted ways with Cristiano Ronaldo at the end of last year. The club brought in Wout Weghorst to provide the extra firepower that Erik Ten Hag wants for the rest of the season.

Weghorst has been having a fantastic season in the Turkish league with Besiktas following his eight goals from 18 games as the club season continued after the conclusion of the 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar which Argentina won via penalties.

Ten Hag finally admitted the truth behind new deals

It was confirmed that United started the groundwork for his transfer as far back as the World Cup, where he impressed with a brace against Lionel Messi's Argentina during the knockout stage. His performance at the Mundial gave United their final verdict to sign him in the winter market.

Ronaldo's exit following the mutual termination of his contract provided the opportunity for the Netherlands International to get a move to Manchester to work under Erik Ten Hag, who confirmed that he has been closely following Weghorst's career since his teenage days.

What is Weghorst's plan at United?

Though he has joined Manchester United on loan for the rest of the season, Weghorst is looking to write history at the club just like club legend Cristiano Ronaldo. Weghorst reportedly told the media that 'For me, it not done. It was not finished. It didn't work out the first time as I hoped and I'm really hungry to show myself to help the team'. Weghorst previously played for Burnley before they were relegated and scored just twice in 20 games.
