Manchester United have been impressive this season under a new manager and new setup that has seen them pull one over several of their top six rivals. But before they had this bright start, they were often in the news for shocking stories and events.
When Sir Alex Ferguson failed to tie down one of United's most exciting talents during his tenure many felt that was his only error in his managerial stay at Old Trafford. A mistake that cost United millions while they tried to rekindle the relationship a few years later for a world record transfer fee.
Erik ten Hag's biggest target, the signing is being sought by Big Six clubs
There's an issue to be resolved with this player, he'll face the team he rejected
The fault was down to what Paul Pogba's late friend and agent, Mino Raiola believed was a disrespectful contract offer by the Red Devils for the then-youngster. An offer late Raiola considered unworthy to be offered to his pet dog was tended to the young Pogba which was outrightly rejected.
The rejection led to Pogba moving to Turin, where he broke into the first team at Juventus playing under the guidance of the experienced Andrea Pirlo, Claudio Marchisio, and Arturo Vidal. His time at Juventus saw his stock rise to the global stage and enter world-class player discussion prompting United's desire for his return to Old Trafford in the summer of 2016.
Paul Pogba's return was well accepted by the entire fanbase but it was short-lived as he was ridiculed over his performance over the next few years both by the fans and some of his managers before he eventually left last summer after United refused to offer him a new contract despite claiming he was important to them. A return to Turin was sealed and his united relationship fractured once again.
