The England call up tension is all over now but the bittersweet impact of it has hit United.

Manchester United players were amongst a large pool of players contesting to be part of the 26-man English squad for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. The list was eventually announced today by England head coach Gareth Southgate in front of live press this afternoon.

Erik Ten Hag had some of his prominent players made the final list. They are Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, and United's captain Harry Maguire. Rashford and Shaw have been regular starters under their new manager with the striker leading the attack up front and the left-back helping to make the team more compact at with several clean sheets.

But one big name that failed to make the call-up list is star player Jadon Sancho, who will be missing his first major tournament with England. The 22-year-old winger has found life under Ten Hag a bit overwhelming as his performance has dipped despite playing regularly.

Sancho's miss is not only down to his poor form but also due to a recent injury he picked up that saw him miss United's loss to Aston Villa last weekend. The Englishman was part of the England team that lost the Euros 2020 final at Wembley against Italy at their last international tournament.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR UNITED AND SANCHO?

Although this is sad news for Sancho, there is some upside to it as Erik Ten Hag would have more time to spend getting him to his top level and delivering during games. He will also have enough time to work his way back from injury to full fitness and be ready to help United's cause when the league resumes.
