The veteran defender will have a different role from the others

Erik Ten Hag still has to define the role and future of some players within the squad, as the summer is coming to an end, so it is still planned to add at least a couple of reinforcements to improve the team and give depth to the positions that are not yet fully reinforced, so the board will have to hurry to achieve the objectives of the coach.

For his part, Ten Hag is analysing all the possibilities he has with the available players, as it is known that some have not had a place during the start of the season, so it is expected that they will leave the club soon, while other players are still waiting for their role within the team to be revealed, so that they can perform better according to the expectations that are held about them.

One of the players who has been in uncertainty, but who now appears to have a definite future is Jonny Evans, the 35-year-old defender who is in his second spell with the Red Devils, having spent a few seasons with Leicester City.

However, the manager gave him a chance to return to Old Trafford where he had already spent 9 seasons between 2006 and 2015, in the pre-season the defender was able to appear in some matches, impressing Ten Hag with his performances, so at the end of the friendly matches, Evan's future was to be defined, as it was rumoured that the board could provide him with a one-year contract.

The veteran defender has apparently been able to reach an agreement with Manchester United to stay at least one more year in the team, the coach always showed the willingness to keep Evans in the squad, however, it has been said that the role of the player will not be having much action on the field, at least not in the "important" games, so the Red Devils hope that Jonny Evans will function more as a leader of the dressing room and can fill the younger players with experience.
