Though Erik Ten Hag claims there are no guaranteed starters in his team at Manchester United, there are surely some exceptions to that claim. Some players simply transcend selection metrics especially when they are fully fit, the 29-year-old Raphael Varane.
The French center-back has been a fixed starter for Erik Ten Hag's first team since he took over as manager in the summer. He has played over 20 games already this season for the Red Devils and was crucial in helping Manchester United to their first final under Erik Ten Hag.

The Red Devils beat Nottingham Forest 5-0 over two legs in the Carabao Cup semifinal tie to book their spot in the final against Newcastle United. Varane played the full stretch of both games alongside his most regular partner at the back, Lisandro Martinez.
Though the pair are club teammates, they were recently national team rivals at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, for France and Argentina respectively. Varane started the final and played till the extra time while Martinez was an unused substitute as Argentina won the tournament via penalties after a 3-3 scoreline in 120 minutes of football.
According to confirmed reports, Raphael Varane has officially announced his retirement from International football today. He won't play for the France national team anymore. The 2018 World Cup winner reportedly decided to retire to devote more time to his family following his recent experiences with physical and psychological wear and tear. His decision has been met with messages for fans and well-wishers across football.
