Less than ten appearances in four years and United still wants him

Manchester United have conducted a series of clear out from manager to manager in recent years with several players moving on and coming in as their different managers implement different strategies on their assembled team. But a few players have consistently survived the axing and remained a part of United through these phases.

Not many might remember his name since he's yet to feature at all under new manager Erik Ten Hag despite being the longest-serving member of the squad ahead of David De Gea. The name Phil Jones might sound like a new name to new followers of Manchester United but the majority of the fans certainly remember him.

Since he made his debut under Sir Alex Ferguson on March 21, 2010, Phil Jones has transitioned through several managerial eras at the club and remains an old guard of the last successful Red Devils team to win the Premier League. But in recent seasons, he has become more of a back-seat player, present in training but never in the match squad and hardly features, with less than ten appearances in the last four seasons.

Somehow he has remained a part of every team under former managers like David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskajear, & Ralf Rangnick. It's no surprise that many have forgotten about the center-back and only become surprised when they find his name on the team sheet for a game.

WHY DOES UNITED KEEP HIM?

Despite his lack of appearance, Jones has been consistently professional whenever he's called upon. Of course, a lack of appearance for long periods is certainly bound to expose him, but he has remained focused on his desire to always contribute to the team, no matter how little.
