Manchester United are still unable to finalize their first signing in the transfer window for next season. This is largely due to the uncertainty generated by the sale of the club, which has left Erik ten Hag without the possibility of signing the big targets he had in mind, however there is a player whose signing could not be carried out because of Harry Maguire.

Given the budgetary uncertainty that the team is going through due to the Glazers' indecision, Erik ten Hag has had to think of new ways to make signings, especially when it comes to players with a high price tag. Such is the case of Declan Rice, the West Ham midfielder who has attracted the interest of several Premier League clubs, such as Arsenal and Manchester United, and for whom they are asking an estimated price of 100 million euros.

That sum would be impossible for Manchester United to pay, at least for now, so the Dutch manager would have launched a proposal for a player exchange. In this proposal, Manchester United would include Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire in addition to a sum of money, in exchange for Declan Rice.

Everything seems to indicate that the West Ham board has found this idea interesting and attractive, as both McTominay and Maguire would be to the manager's liking and, given the imminent departure of Rice this summer, they would prefer to get players in exchange so as not to leave the team without quality players. However, the only problem with that transaction would be Harry Maguire, whose days with the Red Devils appear to be numbered.

Maguire's stance on leaving Old Trafford

It has been said for a few weeks now that Erik ten Hag no longer wants Harry Maguire as his first-choice defender, so they are looking to sell him. Several teams have shown interest in the 30-year-old defender, but Maguire has reportedly told the Manchester United board that he does not want to leave the club and plans to serve out his contract until 2025, which would rule out a move to West Ham for Declan Rice.
