Manchester United scouts have spent a lot of time in search of different transfer targets that have been identified as potential signings, as the Ten Hag era continues to build the team in his image. The summer signing of Casemiro, Antony, Lisandro, Malacia & Eriksen were all statement signings to kickstart the new era at Old Trafford.

Only the goalkeeping unit didn't see much of an improved signing, with David De Gea calmly in control of that end of the pitch.  At least that was the belief in the summer when United was assumed to be interested in offering De Gea a new contract as his current deal expires in the summer of 2023. But United seems to have other plans for the goalkeeping unit with a new goalie under serious consideration.

United is rumored to be linked with FC Porto's Diogo Costa, who has been in impressive form for the reigning Portuguese champions. The 23-year-old was previously rumored to cost around 35 million euros but that has changed today, as he has penned a new long-term contract with Porto with a 75million euros release clause.

Ten Hag has remained mute about De Gea's contract situation despite consistently choosing him as his number goalie so far this season. De Gea had previously stated his desire to renew his contract and is willing to also take a significant pay cut to remain at the club for the foreseeable future. So far he has kept three back to back to back clean sheets in recent games for United.

WHAT NEXT FOR UNITED AFTER TARGET SIGNS A NEW CONTRACT?

Although United might be in the market for a new goalie, it is highly unlikely they will be looking to pay a world record fees for a goalie when they can still retain the services of David De Gea for a few more years. The new contract signing at Porto might have just dashed the hope of any United bid for Costa in the transfer window.
