Manchester United has had a relatively decent start to Erik Ten Hag’s era in charge with a current eight games unbeaten run backed by a well-structured defensive line that has kept five clean sheets in the Premier League. Their run has included teams like Chelsea, Tottenham, Everton, and even mega-rich Newcastle United, who have been great this season.
With the team fighting to get back to their glory days, several players have been putting in the extra efforts to continue the good patch of form which include their ever-present number one, David De Gea, who has been reborn under Ten Hag. His recent surge in form has seen him showcase his top quality that had Real Madrid chasing him for two seasons in a row.
This is Cristiano Ronaldo’s new plan to prove Erik Ten Hag and haters wrong
Less than ten appearances in four years and United still wants him
David De Gea, with less than a year left on his contract, has been in a renewal saga with the United Board and who haven’t provided the 31-year-old Spaniard with any positive about his contract extension. De Gea in recent development is said to be willing to take a significant pay on his £375,000-a-week wages to stay at United.
This huge decision is on the back of his desire to continue to play and deliver results for the club he has been representing since his August 2011 debut under then-manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. He has crossed over 380 appearances for United in the Premier League with just 11 matches to reach the hallmark of 400 premier league appearances for the Red Devils.
Although De Gea has had his fair share of shaky moments, the United fanbase is certainly right behind their goalie who has guided them through very tough times when everyone else failed. His significance to United is clearly in his stats for the club, with 135 clean sheets in 389 Premier League appearances. The board will sure have at the very least consider giving him a new contract following the fans’ backing.
