Erik Ten Hag's men are currently on their of form this season with seven wins and two draws in their last nine games across all competitions, with three consecutive clean sheets in a row, courtesy of their well-drilled backline that is marshaled by Lisandro Martinez and David De Gea. Both players have been phenomenal as the season progresses.

Ten Hag decided to back David De Gea as his number-one choice goalie, in a move that saw highly rated Dean Henderson leave on loan to Nottingham Forest in a bid to get more playing time this season. The backing has further boosted De Gea's confidence with five clean sheets from 12 Premier League matches and three straight clean sheets across all competition.

De Gea has made ample breathtaking saves against tricky opposition this season to ensure that United stays toe to toe in every game and contests this season. The Spaniard's performance is no surprise as it is a natural routine of the 31-year-old since his debut in 2011. But time is running out for the top goalie as his contract keeps counting down to the summer.

With almost 400 appearances for the Red Devils in the Premier League, De Gea is United's second longest-serving first-time player in the league only behind center-back Phil Jones. He has about 209 wins to his name, 135 clean sheets, and 85 losses, and was United's player of the season for several consecutive seasons.

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE ISSUE WITH HIS CONTRACT RENEWAL?

No one knows for sure what is going on regarding his contract renewal including De Gea himself. The Spaniard has constantly professed his desire to see out his career at Manchester United and is even willing to take a significant pay cut to keep that dream alive. Yet United so far seem unbothered as their rumored target replacement for de Gea just signed a new extension at his present club, FC Porto.
