Manchester United has been experiencing a snowball effect with their affairs as a club since the start of the season under new manager Erik Ten Hag. The Red Devils' change in playing principles saw them create unwanted friction within the team by benching a host of regular starters.

Erik Ten Hag was quick to send a host of players to the bench as he perceived as unfit for his team, which started the Ronaldo crisis as the season progressed. The Dutchman opted for a more youthful Marcus Rashford to lead the line and has been repaid with a significant goal contribution to United's season so far.

Over time the situation with Ronaldo escalated further into the season after the incident during the Tottenham game which saw the Portuguese receive an internal suspension. Ten Hag subsequently brought him back into the squad but the damage had already been done as Ronaldo wanted out.

His media interview was the last straw, and his contract was terminated afterward. But that has not deterred the 37-year-old at all as he has now focused on achieving ultimate glory with the Portugal national team in Qatar for possibly his last world cup campaign.

WHAT NEW RECORD HAS RONALDO SET AT UNITED EXIT?

Cristiano Ronaldo looked very lively and energetic in Portugal's 3-2 win over the black stars of Ghana yesterday at Stadium 974 in Doha. The Portuguese scored a goal from the spot to make him the first player ever to score in five different men's World Cups. He capped the beautiful out with another record as the player with the Most Man of The Match awards in the World Cup, with seven to his name.
