Former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra spoke with Betfair ahead of the clash between his former team and Liverpool tonight. The French ex-footballer has always shown his passion and love for the Red Devils, however, he is also one of the most critical people when the team struggles as they currently are. This talk with Betfair wasn’t so different.
“Against Liverpool, we will need a miracle. The only positive thing is Liverpool haven’t won a game yet, so they also don’t look ready”. Although Evra knows they are a much better side than United, he still has a little bit of hope that his team can get the job done. He also says that since the Red Devils have hit rock bottom, they can’t get any worse than that.
Harry Maguire will not start in tonight's match against Liverpool
Casemiro’s first words about his transfer to Manchester United
The 41-year-old believes this is a great opportunity for the Red Devils to regain confidence since the rivals are also struggling at the start of the season: “United can surprise everyone but it’s going to be tough. Maybe this match can boost the players' confidence. Liverpool are not at the level of Man City at the moment, and I know they will get back”.
He still remembers last year’s humiliating defeat against them: “Last season Liverpool won 4-0, but it could have been more, it was like a training session. If Liverpool are arrogant we can beat them. But if they come into this game motivated after they haven’t won any of their first two games then they will destroy us”.
As Patrice Evra said, Manchester United should take advantage of the fact that Liverpool are struggling too. Nevertheless, this also makes them very dangerous because they are desperate for a victory and they already know what it feels like to win at Old Trafford like they did last season. If Erik ten Hag’s side win this game, it could be the stepping stone they desperately need to change the course of the season.
