Manchester United legend Patrice Evra spoke in association with Betfair about Manchester United after they finally got their first win of the season against Liverpool. In that game, Erik ten Hag decided to drop out Harry Maguire, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Luke Shaw to give other players a chance and it worked out. The former France left-back couldn’t agree more with the current manager as he thinks these three players should leave.
Evra thinks Harry Maguire’s price tag has condemned him: “He is paying the price for his transfer fee. From that day, I said he is going to have the most difficult season for United because people only look at the price. If we bought him for £5m, people would say he’s an amazing centre-back. Now we’ve got to a point where even if he has a good game people are not happy, so there’s negativity around him”.
Erik ten Hag’s dilemma on the attack of Manchester United
Ajax has rejected another offer from Manchester United for Antony
He also has had enough of his former teammate’s uncertainty about his future: “The Cristiano Ronaldo saga is another issue. Is he staying? Is he leaving? It has created a lot of confusion with fans. He’s still here, the transfer window isn’t closed but I think, personally knowing Cristiano, if he doesn’t play, he would like to leave. I think this would be the best for him and United”.
Lastly, he believes that the current left-back at Old Trafford has had enough chances only to prove he is not good enough: “Luke Shaw has been here for so many years and he hasn’t matched the standard set by Dennis Irwin or myself, and I think left-back is a really crucial position for United. Maybe it’s time for those players to go”.
Even though Patrice Evra might be right, it will be very difficult to see these players leave this summer. Cristiano Ronaldo wants out, but he hasn't any offers from other clubs, Erik ten Hag has already said that he still counts with Maguire, and Luke Shaw could be a backup option for Tyrell Malacia who is still very young.
