Manchester United had a different plan for today's game with Ten Hag setting up the team to go all out against out-of-form Aston Villa. Sadly, there were no smiles on the faces of United fans, as well as their manager on the afternoon as they were overwhelmed with Villa's counterattacking transitions.

Cristiano Ronaldo was chosen to lead the line for the fourth game in a row under Ten Hag with the captain's band but it was an all-around abysmal showing for Manchester United. Two early goals by Leon Baily and Lucas Digne set the tone for a shambolic outing for the Red Devils.

The more they try to close the gap the more it increases

The team's performance was so bad that Ten Hag decide on triple substitutions, shortly into the second half after United conceded a third goal courtesy of a smashing finish from Jacob Ramsey in the 18-yard box from an Aston Villa attack to make it three 3-1.

The changes didn't have so much impact on the game as they had hoped to change before the final whistle to avoid dropping much-needed points. The loss against Villa ends United's nine games unbeaten run that had included seven wins and two draws across all competitions.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR UNITED?

This is certainly a new bump on the road for Ten Hag and his men who had been on a run of impressive form before their battering today. The loss leaves them in fifth position and three points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United who beat Southampton 4-1 away from home. United's next EPL match is against Fulham at Craven Cottage next Sunday.
