The Portuguese national team captain had for the most part of the season been subjected to a bench role by Manchester United's new manager Erik Ten Hag, despite his claims of Ronaldo's huge role in his team. The pair's relationship suffered more damage from media scrutiny as well.

Eventually, Ronaldo cleared out several pieces of misinformation about him and his actions with the club, which saw him berate the new manager's actions and intentions towards him as well as the club owners' mishandling of the club. His contract was ultimately terminated by mutual consent.

WHY IS RONALDO BACK IN REAL MADRID?

The Portuguese legend had hope that he would be able to win the World Cup on the fifth attempt but sadly his team exited in the quarterfinals.
