Ten Hag had met numerous stars at the club, including club legend Cristiano Ronaldo who was rumored to be ready to club but couldn't move in the summer. Ten Hag and Ronaldo didn't see eye to eye on several occasions, causing a series of internal crises and his eventual exit from United.

During his time at United, Erik Ten Hag refused to give him enough playing opportunities and even frustrated his teammate Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who had lesser playing opportunities than Ronaldo since the start of the season.
