Manchester United fans over the past five weeks have been short for words on how to best describe their club captain's performance at the World Cup with England despite his almost non-existent feature at the club this season. His eloquent performance helped England's course in Qatar.
The Three Lions coach, Gareth Southgate took the bold step of naming Harry Maguire in his England call-up squad for Qatar despite his club situation, where he has been subjected to a just bench role this season even when there were opportunities for him to have been selected to play for United.

Maguire who has been a regular feature in the United starting lineup since his move from Leicester City saw his role change swiftly in the space of one month under the new manager who opted for a center-half pairing of Martinez and Varane.
Even when Raphael Varane got injured in the Chelsea game and rule out for about five weeks, Ten Hag refused to grant Maguire any guaranteed start throughout that timeframe. This continues till the final games before the league was halted for the World Cup.
According to reports, the Manchester United manager revealed that he chose Varane because sometimes one player is better than the other. He went on to say that he has three good options in that position and that his lack of not selecting Maguire is nothing personal.
