Manchester United started this season with a new burning belief that this is the path that will lead them back to the top even if it meant that they'll have to let go of some regular players for the new setup to fold, with highly rated Erik Ten Hag at the helm of affairs.

The Dutchman has been careful and detailed in outlining what he wants from his team with a few of his old guards brought in from Ajax in the summer to accelerate the squad development. Antony was the fresh legs in attack while Lisandro Martinez was primed for the centreback position, which saw drastic changes to the starting lineup.

One of the victims of this change is club captain Harry Maguire, who was ousted to bench duties early on and has remained a regular feature there than in the starting lineup. Even with a fit and available Maguire, the manager sought after other defensive options for the captain.

Maguire's treatment has not gone unnoticed as some club icons have come to his defense and urged Ten Hag to use him. The Englishman has less than five matches this season from United over 20 games so far. Nonetheless, he was picked by Gareth Southgate for the England team and is marshaling the defensive setup of the Three Lions.

HOW HAS MAGUIRE PERFORMED SO FAR?

The 29-year-old center-back has been a real force to reckon with at the heart of England's defense which is at his command. While England coasted to a 6-2 win against Iran at the World Cup, Maguire was phenomenal throughout his time on the pitch before being subbed off. He was one of the standout players on the day and impressed many fans with his performance. In a recent interview, the centre back expressed his desire to play week in week out for United and help them get to where they ought to be.
