Manchester United was in a full-scale hunt to sign several targets in the summer transfer window after their new manager Erik Ten Hag demanded for more quality in his first-team squad after assessing the squad he met at the club.

The club went all out to acquire some targets that included former players of their new manager from his time at Ajax, where he built a dominating team with a fusion of youth and experience. The Red Devils signed several of them but missed out on Ten Hag's favorite choice.

Erik Ten Hag who loves to play with deep-lying playmakers realize that United didn't have someone with the physical quality and vision to dictate play. So he sent on the quest to acquire his former midfield dictator that currently plays for Barcelona.

Frenkie De Jong was chased after by Manchester United from the start of the summer window till the end of the summer transfer market but couldn't convince him to leave his dream club for Old Trafford to become the number pillar of Ten Hag's United squad.

WHAT HAS BARCELONA DONE TO TEN HAG'S PLAN?

Manchester United still have De Jong at the top of their transfer plans for the coming windows per Ten Hag's request but that possibility looks bleak now due to Barcelona's action. FC Barcelona's President has declared that he never intended to sell De Jong who is a pillar of their Barcelona team, which has dealt a huge blow to Ten Hag's chance of reuniting with his former player at United.
