The Mexican forward has just broken the record for most goals in a single calendar year.

Santiago Giménez's season in the Eredivisie continues on an upward path and last Thursday he commanded Feyenoord's victory in a match that had been complicated against Volendam. The Mexican scored the goal that broke the 1-1 tie and in addition to consolidating himself as the leading scorer in the Netherlands, he set a new record for goals in a calendar year.

Giménez reached 31 goals in 2023 and surpassed the 30 that Luis Suárez scored in 2009. Of the Cruz Azul youth squad's goals, 20 have been this season, 18 in the Eredivisie and two more that he scored in his debut in the Champions League against Lazio.

Regarding the goals scored in the league tournament, curiously they are the same amount that the entire Manchester United squad has scored in the Premier League. The Red Devils do not lift and proof of this is the little generation their forwards have.

In 16 games played in the league, those led by Erik ten Hag have scored the same 18 goals as Santiago Giménez. Midfielder Scott McTominay is the player with the most goals at the moment in the Premier League, with a total of five, and Bruno Fernandes follows with three.

The most recent scorer

The last player with more than one goal in the league tournament is Marcus Rashford, who has two. The rest of the Manchester United players who have scored this season have only done so once, so it wouldn't hurt coach Ten Hag to look for a player with Giménez's qualities to put his bad streak behind him.
